12 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.
15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. 16 Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. 17 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
I am sure if you have been following the events of the last few weeks we can say that the World seems as divided as ever. However, the Church is to be an example for the world. We are called in this passage to put Love at the centre of everything we do, as this is the virtue that binds us together in perfect unity.
Jesus set us an example of this, willing to die for our sins, even though we did not deserve this act of love. This is why we can be that example to the World to show that if we treat everyone equally with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience we can all live in a World that is united rather than divided. However we all need to all speak out when injustice happens, we need to stand with the brokenhearted and the oppressed. Let's make sure we pray for those that have suffered injustices in our World but also pray for boldness to speak out when we see this injustice in our communities, work places and possibility our homes. Humility is all about saying we might not have it all right, this is a perfect time for us to reflect and ask the Holy Spirit to make sure that we clothe correctly. Racism and hatred for others has no place in the family of God or in this World we are stewards of.
